Good Manners
Courtesy bows genteelly. Respects urbanity, soft tongues
Fair words, regards love politely, embraces complacency.
Cordial honey-mouthed behaviour in easy-tempering civility,
Obeisance is all things to all men. Curtsies, nods, presses, squeezes hands
Salutes, hob nobs, pledges, kneels, genuflects, visits obligingly.
Mannerly with good grace, P’s and Q’s move to present arms.

Ill Manners
Discourtesy glowers at arm’s length. Looks coldly upon, snarls
Uncourtly precocious words, frowns ungraciously, rudely gives the cold shoulder.
Sullen saucebox frumps language in caustic, acrimonious cynicism.
Insolence sours tartness. Ogles, cuts, shows the door
Answers back, snaps, scowls, makes free with, sends away with a flea in the ear.
Brusquely unaccommodating beast, adding insult to injury.
It was a poor choice
to go that way.
Make better choice next time.
I am awake.
I hear you get in late
You’re out there smoking a cigarette
& I’ll be damned if I am getting out of bed and going out there
as much as I want to
because I quit smoking
and don’t want to start again
so I squish down further and listen
to the way the rain falls off this house.
I love you so much, it is hard to stay in bed and just listen
I am sure you know I am awake
It is hard to stay in bed and listen
and the wind
whipping around now like all of this is going to tear apart.
the unlabeled soup
the Soup of the Day
what’s in it today?
Nobody Knows
usually it’s carrots and peas and stew meat
but today it is different
it smells like old feet
I’m sure you’ll appreciate the Cook’s desire
—> to keep things interesting he’ll never tell
just what’s in his soup
